Ten years after the declaration of independence Kosovo struggles to find its own identity. Young people who did not fight during the war feel excluded from the decision-making processes, still firmly in the hands of the former ruling class of former combatants. Meanwhile, in spite of a purely European lifestyle, people can not easily move beyond national borders and face a state of endemic backwardness.

The most critical situation remains in Mitrovica, where the river Ibar divides the city in half. On the one hand the Albanian Kosovars, on the other the Serbs.

An opposite situation is found in the town of Prizren, where Orthodox Serbs and Muslim Kosovars coexist peacefully.
